FRIYAY!!!

I LOVE my NEW position! I am fortunate enough to work in the Community that cultivated me and that I LOVE, impacting lives on a daily basis!  I am ONE MONTH in, and I'm as excited now, as I was on my first day.  I have a GREAT TEAM behind me, and I know that we are going to continue to GROW and do GREAT THINGS as an Agency with me at the helm.

When I think about myself as a Leader, the term "Servant Leader" instantly comes to mind.  I truly desire to EMPOWER those that I work with and for to
I am constantly seeking out inspiration with doing just that...and I have begun to be more intentional with the books that I read.  I started this book last month, and I plan to finish it up before Thanksgiving (I hope I can)...
It's a great read...full of insights from Women Leaders all over the World & I look forward to putting into practice the "nuggets" that I gain from all of these dynamic women.

What Books have you found inspiration from?  COMMENT and let me know!

The "S" on my chest...

I wear MANY HATS...

My Husband calls me WIFE

My Children call me MOMMY

My Parents call me DAUGHTER

My Sister calls me SISTER

My Niece calls me TT

My Sisterfriends call me FRIEND

My Staff call me LEADER

My Professors call me STUDENT

I am MANY things to MANY people...I guess you could say that I'm a "SUPERWOMAN" so to speak...

My "Balancing Act"  has been going pretty well so far...despite the fact that I have SO MUCH on my plate.  There is however, one person that has been neglected as of late, and that's ME...

Through trial and error, I am learning that sometimes, the cape MUST come off, and the "S" has to rest...

I've heard time and time again that "Self-Preservation" is rule number one...and that's where I need to strengthen my focus...I plan to start Yoga/Meditation before the end of the year.  I would also like to integrate Mindfulness practices into my daily living as well. While these things are on my never ending "TO DO" list, I fully intend to CREATE the time to INVEST in my own preservation/care, VERY SOON!

So what is it that YOU do to practice SELF-CARE? Please COMMENT and SHARE with me...who knows, I may just find inspiration from you too!

The Beautiful Struggle...

Hey there Socialites!

Last (Tuesday) night my Colleagues/SisterFriends and I attended the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's 2015 Annual Meeting at the Miller Auditorium.
That's ME in the red...

Ta-Nehisi Coates was our Keynote Speaker, and he spoke to his experiences as a Black Man coming of age in the United States...he gave us key insights as well as some knowledge and nuggets regarding what we need to do as a Society to address the root causes that have placed us all in the spaces in which we operate today.

I also got a chance to purchase both of his books, and I am over the moon excited to read them in the very near future!  I will also keep you posted on my thoughts once finish each!

What book (s) are you reading right now?  Please COMMENT below to let me know...I'm always looking for new and stimulating reads!

MULTIPOTENTIALITES UNITE!!!

A couple of weeks ago, I got the chance to watch Emilie Wapnick's TEDxBend Talk entitiled "Why some of us don't have one true calling"

This video truly spoke to me--I believe that it describes the majority of my family members, friends, and associates and I to a tee.  I urge you to check it out as well...see if you fit this bill...let's learn to embrace our Multipotentialities, and help others, such as Parents, Educators, and Employers to fully understand us, and assist us in MAXIMIZING ALL OF OUR POTENTIALS!!!

Allow me to REINTRODUCE myself...

Hello Socialites!

I can't believe that it's been over THREE YEARS since I last posted ANYTHING on my previous blog, The Adventures of the Self-Made Socialite http://selfmadesocialite.blogspot.com/ !

Just reading through my previous posts has evoked in me a sense of nostalgia for days gone past--but I must say that I am also eagerly anticipating sharing with you all what has occurred in my life since October 2012!  Quite a bit has transpired actually, and I am SO EXCITED to take you on my NEW life's journey, so let's begin...

As a means to get me back into the writing groove, I have decided to participate in #NaBloPoMo, which is also known as National Blog Posting Month!  Although this is November 2, and I am one day behind, I do promise moving forward to POST EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of the month. no matter how tired, busy, or whateverelse I may be feeling!

So, I have to re-post something that I wrote for the first blog three years ago, as it still rings true today...that was me then, and this is me now...

"I envision the Self-Made Socialite to be a woman that is Strong, Intelligent, Well-Read, Well-Traveled, Philanthropic, with killer Personal Style.  Not perfect, yet striving for perfection in all that she does.  Humble, Kind, Considerate, always striving to better not just herself, but those around her as well.

The Self-Made Socialite wears many hats, yet manages to juggle them all effectively.  She is a Mother, a Wife/Significant Other, a Sister, a Daughter, a Friend, a Business Woman…simply put, she’s “EVERY Woman.”

She is me…She is you…she is the women that we admire and look-up to, who have come from meager beginnings, yet have managed through hard work and tenacity, to “make something of themselves,” be they successful Mothers, Educators, or Corporate Executives.

She is the woman that we raise our Daughters to be and the type of woman that we pray our Sons marry…Confident, Driven, and Secure with the Beautiful Woman that she has become.  She’s Beautiful not only externally, but internally as well…and SHE knows this, without anyone telling her at all…

But understand this…she is not perfect, and she understands and embraces this fact.  She can be stubborn, impatient, and even a bit self-centered from time to time…but she has learned to embrace her imperfections too…and uses the moments when these less flattering pieces of her existence present themselves as life lessons…so that eventually, she will have tamed those characteristics completely.

I have finally come to the conclusion that I AM WHO I WANT TO BE…my existence is not dependant nor based upon others’ desires or definitions of who I can/should be.  I am happy with who I am, but I am not content…I strive daily to be the best ME that I can be, and I encourage you to do the same!

Simply put, I am the Self-Made Socialite."

WOW...I wrote that three years ago...while so much has happened since then, the above statement still rings true...I think I may just have a way with words...STAY TUNED for what else I have to say!!!
